FREIHEITEN (IN) DER WIEDERHOLUNG
Christine Litz gives a guided tour of the exhibition Peter Dreher: The Happy Sisyphus

Saturday | April 27, 2024 | 3 p.m.

Peter Dreher (1932-2020) wanted to paint an invisible picture. That is, of course, impossible. But it was feasible to paint as simple a picture as possible. This resulted in his now iconic series of water glasses, entitled Tag um Tag, guter Tag. Over 5000 paintings have been created in this series from 1974 to the present day. Why does an artist paint the same motif over and over again over a period of more than 40 years? What changes in him and in the paintings?

Dr. Christine Litz is an art historian and currently Director of the Museum für Neue Kunst, Freiburg. She specializes in modern and contemporary art and has worked for the Museum Ludwig, Cologne, skulptur projekte münster and dOCUMENTA (13), among others. She is concerned with the functions, responsibilities and possibilities of the museum as an institution.
